New research partnership with UMC Utrecht on pediatric osteotomy planning

Jan 2026 · 4 min read · Presurgeo Team

Presurgeo and UMC Utrecht will collaborate on advancing automated 3D planning for pediatric lower-limb deformity correction.

Why pediatric osteotomy planning

Corrective osteotomies in children present unique challenges. Growth plates, smaller anatomy, and complex three-dimensional deformity make accurate pre-operative planning especially important. Manual planning is time-consuming and difficult to standardize across cases.

The partnership focus

  • Adapting SkeletonPlanner's automated pipeline for pediatric CT datasets
  • Validating measurement accuracy against expert consensus at UMC Utrecht
  • Studying workflow integration in a busy pediatric orthopedic department
  • Publishing findings to contribute to the evidence base in pediatric deformity correction

Clinical impact

The collaboration aims to bring the efficiency benefits of automated 3D analysis to pediatric orthopedic care, supporting surgeons in planning complex deformity corrections with greater precision and reproducibility.
